RESULTS: BIQ Materials' infill OD200 was chosen for the new artificial turf pitch at Vikingavallen in Jomala, Åland. The installation was carried out by Gårda Johan Sport, Lek & Landskap.
Jomala municipality in Åland has chosen to invest in a sustainable artificial turf system for its new pitch at Vikingavallen - an important step in the transition away from rubber-based materials that will be banned in the EU from October 2031.
The installation is being carried out by Gårda Johan Sport, Lek & Landskap, and the choice fell on BIQ Materials' OD200 - a bio-based infill that combines high playing characteristics with environmental benefits. The material is biodegradable, UV-resistant and has a high density that makes it stable even in windy and rainy conditions.
"We choose sustainable - to meet our own high standards for sustainable materials that are good for both people and the environment. BIQ's material has both high playing properties and is biodegradable, which makes it an obvious choice for us," says Krille Mattsson, Head of Leisure at Jomala Municipality.
Vikingavallen is a full-size artificial turf pitch (100x63 meters) located next to Vikingahallen in Jomala municipality. It serves as the home ground for Jomala IK's football team and is close to exercise trails and beach volleyball courts - an important gathering point for both sports and leisure.
