Infill for the artificial grass pitch Kviberg 6 at Serneke Arena, Gothenburg

The EU’s upcoming ban on rubber-based infill for artificial turf is driving the need for sustainable alternatives that meet both performance and environmental standards.

IFK Göteborg has taken a significant step toward a more sustainable football future by selecting a modern artificial turf system for Kviberg 6 at Serneke Arena – an important move in the transition away from rubber-based materials set to be banned across the EU from October 2031.

The club chose BIQ400 as part of a state-of-the-art turf system installed by Limonta.

By doing so, IFK Göteborg is taking a concrete step toward complying with upcoming regulations while maintaining a high level of playing performance – a key priority throughout the project.

Player feedback has been highly positive from the very beginning:

“Great turf. Great infill. I’ve tested many artificial pitches across Sweden, and this one feels very promising. Once the infill settles, this will be one of the best pitches in the country.”
Loke Grahn, Head Coach P17, IFK Göteborg

Kviberg 6 is a full-size artificial pitch used by IFK Göteborg’s youth teams as well as other local clubs. Located within the larger Kviberg sports complex, it serves as an important hub for both training and matches.

BIQ400 is a bio-based infill that combines high-level playing performance with clear environmental benefits. The material is biodegradable, UV-resistant, and features high density, ensuring it remains stable on the pitch even in rain and wind. This reduces material loss, lowers maintenance needs, and improves cost efficiency over time.

With BIQ400, players benefit from a pitch that is safe, durable, and future-proof – while the city of Gothenburg takes another step toward more sustainable sports infrastructure.
