On February 7, 2025, we gathered industry-leading experts and engaged participants for our webinar "Is Your Artificial Turf Ready for REACH?" During the webinar, we discussed the upcoming REACH requirements and how to prepare for the transition to sustainable and non-toxic infill alternatives.

Our speakers, along with the expert panel, provided many great insights and new knowledge!

For those who missed the webinar, we have summarized it below. You can also watch the full webinar at the link further down.

What does REACH mean for artificial turf?

The REACH regulation means that rubber infill in artificial turf fields will be banned from 2031. Our experts emphasized the importance of starting to plan now for a smooth transition to sustainable and non-toxic alternatives. Waiting too long can pose both practical and economic challenges.

Sustainable alternatives for infill materials

During the webinar, we presented BIQ Material's new bio-based infill material, OD400.

An infill that:

✅ Meets FIFA Quality PRO for the highest playability
✅ Is biodegradable, making it fully compliant with the new REACH requirements
✅ Contributes to a more sustainable sports environment

Switching to bio-based infill can be a game-changer for the future of artificial turf fields!

Experts' insights and experiences

We had the honor of hosting two experts in the field:

🔹 Nial MacPhee, Director at Sportslab, shared his technical insights on infill materials and how different options affect play characteristics and sustainability.

🔹 Gustav Hessfelt, Property and Field Manager at IFK Gothenburg, talked about the club's journey towards more sustainable solutions and the challenges and opportunities they have encountered.

Engaging discussions and Questions from participants

The webinar concluded with an interactive Q&A session where participants had the opportunity to ask questions directly to our experts. Some of the most discussed topics were:

🔹 Health risks associated with microplastics – What are the long-term consequences for both humans and the environment?
🔹 Practical steps for switching to bio-based infill – How can clubs and municipalities plan for a smooth transition?
🔹 Economic aspects – What does it cost to replace the infill material, and what support might be available?

It was inspiring to see the engagement and willingness to find sustainable solutions for the future of artificial turf fields!

Looking ahead

We are extremely pleased with the positive response and engagement from our participants, and we will continue with both webinars and educating customers and partners about our sustainable and non-toxic infill materials.
